Survey: Effects of the COVID-19 crisis on children with Autism and their families

Are you the parent or principal carer of a school-age child or adolescent with a clinical diagnosis on the Autism spectrum? If so, we would be very grateful if you would share your experiences with us in an online survey (approx. 30 minutes):

English Version: https://www.soscisurvey.de/CoronaAutism/?q=English

German Version: https://www.soscisurvey.de/CoronaAutism/?q=German

Persian Version: https://www.soscisurvey.de/CoronaAutism/?q=Persian

Turkish Version: https://www.soscisurvey.de/CoronaAutism/?q=Turkish01

In the survey, which is being run in four different languages simultaneously, we ask you to provide information about your child with Autism and another child you know well, e.g. a sibling. We are especially interested in their health and well-being, as well as how they spent a typical day before the pandemic, at the height of the crisis, and at present. We will also ask you about your current living situation and effects the pandemic situation has had on your family. This information will highlight the specific challenges faced by families with Autism in the current pandemic and will be used to further develop guidelines and recommendations for coping with times of crisis.

The survey will end on the 30th of September 2020.

Thank you!

Asperger autist inspires other people with autism, media and TV with his biography

Exactly on the 2nd of April 2019, the World Autism Day, the book “A Gateway to Your World – How I Learned to Love My Feelings”  by Aaron Wahlwas published. Aaron himself has been diagnosed with autism and works as an author for the Droemer Knaur Verlag. At this point we would like to offer Aaron the opportunity to introduce his book and open up the possibly for other’s to get exicted about his work.

“The international Asperger expert Tony Attwood wrote the preface for my book. In the book, I describe the long road of misdiagnoses, accumulated but non-expressed emotions, isolation and exclusion. At the same time, I write about my way to a life full with wonderful people, emotions that I can recognize and express, and direct and open communication on the subject of autism. With my book I hope to inspire other people with autism and would like encourage them to accept themself and autism as part of their personality. Also, I hope to encourage other people with autism to recognize, develop and love their strengths and abilities and to feel and express all the emotions that make live worth living. “

“The book opened me the door to the public, the media and TV, with the aim of making autistic and neurotypical people aware of the topic and entering the discourse. Far-reaching influencers on Instagram and Youtube are reporting on my book right now. Further, autism bloggers and journalists for example from the Hamburger Abendblatt. On this years World Autism Day, three articles appeared on renowned TV channels about myself– ARD, SAT1 and NDR. “

“But that was just the beginning: I would like to encourage more conversation and initiate collaborations to help autism worldwide. Together we can achieve even more – for all autistic people and personally for all human beings.”

For those interested, there is information about Aaron’s book, a magazine article in the Hamburger Abendblatt as well as a portrait video about him. You will also find the contributions from the TV channels ARD, SAT1 and NDR here.
